Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has said increased funding for the judiciary shall increase the High Court coverage by operationalising six High Court circuits.
Owiny Dollo made the remarks during the opening ceremony for the 23rd Annual Judges Conference that kicked off at the Mestil Hotel.
He said there is need for judicial officers to provide accountability for the increased funding by performing to people's perception and expectations.
This year the conference is being held under the theme: "The Administration of the Judiciary Act and sustainable transformation of the Judiciary."
"President has agreed on the need for the judiciary budget to reach Shs 800 billion which we had presented to him," he said.
Owiny-Dollo said the increment is to take care of the increasing workforce in the judiciary, as it further decentralises services to improve access to justice.
"We undertake to have a chief Magistrate in each district and establish a magistrate grade 1 court in every constituency,"he said.
Other strategic objectives, he said, are improving coordination, partnerships and accountability; improving public awareness and the image of the judiciary; and to enhance resource mobilisation and management, improve coordination, partnerships and accountability; improving public awareness and the image of the Judiciary; and enhancing resource mobilisation and management.
Owiny Dollo stressed judiciary's commitment in upholding the rule of law, promoting good governance, and contributing to a peaceful and harmonious society.
"Sustainable access to justice is equal to sustainable peace, security and development; each of us just needs to do our part individually and collectively for the good of our country. We need to always serve with utmost humility and integrity and make upright decisions without fear, favour, malice, affection, or ill-will," he said.
Justice Damalie Lwanga ,the executive director Judicial Training Institute, said that the general objective of the conference is to assess the performance of last year and discuss the administration of the Judiciary Act 2020, in the transformation of the Judiciary.
