Joan Kagezi memorial lecture set for Friday

The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has organised a third memorial lecture for its departed staff, Joan Kagezi.

The lecture scheduled to take place on Friday 13, 2018 at Nile Hall, Hotel Africana in Kampala is organized in partnership with Wayamo foundation. It will run under the theme; “Combating international and transnational organized crime; lessons learnt and best practices”.

Ms Alison Saunders, a British barrister and the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales will deliver a key note speech.

Speaking about the lecture, DPP Justice Mike Chibita, said it is aimed at continuing the legacy of Kagezi, and to show her service did not end in vain.

“What we learn from these lectures is that for us who are tirelessly serving in the law enforcement sector know our efforts are not in vain because we know that even when we are gone, it’ll continue,” he said.

Regarding justice of Kagezi, Chibita said that investigations into the Joan Kagezi murder have progressed but not far enough, “until we come up with something credible, I’ll say we’ve not gone far enough. In this case, I believe we shall get to the murderers.”

Kagezi who was a lead prosecutor in the trial of the 13 suspects over the 2010 terror attacks in Kampala that claimed over 70 people.

Kagezi was shot dead by men riding on a motorcycle in Kiwatule on March 30, 2015 as she returned home from duty.
