The Ministry of Works and Transport has revealed that they are having difficulties with verification of some essential workers because there is a lot of duplication of number plates and misuse of movement permits.

Speaking to the media in Kampala, Susan Kataike, the principal communications officer in the ministry, cautioned any dubious persons duplicating number plates and misusing permits saying they risk withdrawal of clearance.

"If you are cleared, please make sure that you don’t abuse the use of the clearance because already we have got complaints where some people are abusing those clearance permits. They are travelling beyond curfew hours and the clearance doesn’t allow one to move beyond curfew hours, “she said.

She explained that starting Thursday all movements’ permits for essential workers will be renewed by the ministry of Works personnel and not through third parties.

"We hope that by Thursday, the system will automatically clear. They will either print for you the one that you have, and it will automatically be renewed in the systems," she said.

She noted that 24,909 clearances have been issued, 404 rejected and 5834 are pending approval.

"Whether it's a branded car and it has no clearance, it is not supposed to be on the road because we have got scenarios where people are found using branded cars to actually ferry passengers so we need all vehicles to have clearances," she said.
