Uganda has received the third batch of Covid-19 vaccine doses to help the country fight the deadly virus.

At around 10:30pm on Wednesday, 175,200 doses of AstraZaneca vaccines donated by the French government through the COVAX facility landed at Entebbe Airport aboard a KLM flight and received by officials from the Ministry of Health and National Medical Stores.

According to the National Medical Stores Principal Public Relations Officer, the doses were then taken to their cold rooms in Entebbe.

“They will be dispatched to health facilities and vaccination centres across the country,”Nduhukire said.

The arrival of the third batch now to the 864,000 doses the country received  earlier this year.

The arrival of a third batch is a sigh of relief to the population after the country ran short of the vaccines, a situation that frustrated government efforts to vaccinate the high risk people.

Following the shortage of Covid vaccines at a time they are needed most, some  private health facilities decided to make a kill out of the situation by selling the doses for a much as shs300,000.

Police last week arrested 12 people , recovered 803 used doses and, empty vaccine bottles , 1000 immunization cards in an operation targeting private health facilities selling Covid vaccines which are supposed to be administered free of charge to the public.
