Police in Nateete are investigating a case of suspected livestock theft following the recovery of two cattle during a pre-dawn operation conducted in Busega along the Kampala–Masaka road.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, officers acted on intelligence received at about 4:00am on Wednesday indicating that a motor vehicle was transporting suspected stolen cattle.
“Officers immediately acted on the intelligence and intercepted the vehicle, leading to the recovery of two live cows believed to have been stolen,” SP Kawala said.
The intercepted vehicle, a silver Toyota X-Trail registration number UAS 521W, was stopped opposite Busega main market.
However, the occupants reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene upon being intercepted by police.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the two cows, which police believe may have been stolen from an unidentified location. The vehicle has since been impounded at Nateete Police Station as investigations continue.
Authorities have registered a case of being in possession of suspected stolen cattle as part of ongoing inquiries aimed at tracing the suspects and establishing the origin of the livestock.
Police say efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals who fled the scene, as well as to determine whether the incident is linked to wider cattle theft operations in the region.
Livestock theft has remained a concern in parts of the country, with security agencies frequently conducting intelligence-led operations targeting suspected networks involved in the illegal trade.
SP Kawala said police remain committed to cracking down on such crimes and urged members of the public to continue sharing timely intelligence to support law enforcement efforts.
