Muslims have been urged to embrace giving, especially to those in need, during the remaining days of the fasting period because the rewards for charity during this time are believed to be especially great.

Sheikh Sadat Salim Odunyi, the Imam of Masijid Swalihin in Naguru Godown, said Muslims and other well-wishers should take advantage of the fasting period to support those in need.

“People should embrace giving, especially during these remaining days of the fasting period, because the reward for charity during this time is very great,” Sheikh Odunyi said.

He made the remarks while receiving 10 prayer garments (misalo) donated by Ssemadongo Investment Club.

Sheikh Odunyi thanked the group for the support, saying the mosque was in great need of the items.

“We are very grateful for this support because we truly needed these items. I also call upon other well-wishers to come forward and support us, especially as we are still seeking funds to construct a mosque tower,” he added.

The chairperson of the club, Hajji Abbey Mukiibi Nkaaga, said the group was formed after several people met while going to watch a performance by Afrigo Band and later discovered they shared a common goal of helping those in need.

“We met as people who had gone to watch Afrigo Band perform and realized we shared the same ideas of helping the needy. That is how we decided to form this club,” Mukiibi said.

He added that the club currently has 40 members, each saving shs10,000  which is later used to support charitable causes.

The group also donated shs500,000  to help provide meals for Muslims during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

Godfrey Luyombya, the Speaker of the council in Nakawa and also a member of the club, said they deliberately looked for a mosque facing challenges so they could extend support to the Muslim community.

“We decided to look for a mosque facing challenges so that we could support the Muslim community,” Luyombya said, praising the club members for their spirit of service.
