Police in Adjumani District have arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with the murder of his wife after a domestic violence incident in Dzaip Sub-county.
The victim, 55-year-old Francisca Asianzo, was found dead at their home in Pawinyo Village, Logoangwa Parish.
According to Police, the incident occurred on February 26, 2026, when the suspect, Charles Moi Ode, allegedly assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute.
North West Nile Region Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, said the victim sustained severe injuries during the attack.
“It is alleged that the suspect assaulted his wife using sticks, causing her to lose consciousness. Neighbors advised him to take her to hospital, but he ignored the advice and left her unattended,” SP Asea said.
The following day, on February 27 at around 7:00 pm, the woman was found dead inside the house by the suspect, who later reported the matter to Pagirinya Police Station. Police responded, documented evidence, and arrested the suspect.
The body was taken to Adjumani General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
SP Asea revealed that the suspect attempted to take his own life by overdosing on antiretroviral drugs but was rescued by police officers and rushed to hospital.
He is currently in custody at Adjumani Police Station as investigations continue.
A case of murder by assault has been registered under reference number Adj CRB 114/2026. Statements have been recorded from relatives, and homicide and scene-of-crime officers are involved in the investigation.
SP Asea condemned the incident and urged community leaders and residents to take domestic violence seriously.
“Domestic violence remains a worrying trend in Adjumani District. We urge community leaders and the public to report such cases early before they escalate into loss of life,” he said.
Police have pledged to provide further updates as investigations progress.
