.Police in Wakiso District are investigating the murder of an 18-year-old student in Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division, Nansana Municipality.
The deceased, identified as Martin Bukenya, a student at Hill Side Secondary School in Matugga and a resident of Kirinyabigo, Kawanda Nabweru Division, was killed on the night of February 14, 2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Bukenya was allegedly beaten to death at around 11pm by a man identified as Herbert after he was reportedly found inside Herbert’s home with the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter.
According to police, Herbert fled the scene with his family shortly after the incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the ongoing investigation and said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspect.
“We are actively investigating the murder incident that occurred in Mabanda Cell, Gombe Division. The suspect fled the scene with his family, and we are doing everything possible to apprehend him and ensure justice for the victim,” Kawala said
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could lead to Herbert’s arrest.
Police are currently collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Bukenya’s death has shocked the local community, with leaders and residents expressing concern over safety and the protection of minors.
Kawala urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities.
“This is a tragic incident, and we urge parents and guardians to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately,” she said.
The case has renewed concerns about violent crime and community safety in Wakiso District as investigations continue.
