The government has launched a 17-kilometer road construction project in Mukono Municipality to address traffic congestion and stimulate economic growth. The Shs 69 billion project includes roads from Kame-Nabuti to Katosi, Nasuuti-Ntawo, and Bajjo.
State Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, urged agencies like NWSC, UMEME, and NEMA to expedite relocating infrastructure to avoid delays. "Agencies need to work with contractors to move pipes, electric poles, and cables,” he emphasized.
The project has fostered unity among Mukono’s leaders, with Kyofatogabye praising their collaboration. "Unlike Kampala, Mukono leaders have set aside political differences to support development," he noted.
Mukono residents are optimistic about the project’s potential to ease traffic and enhance mobility. Town Clerk Francis Byabagambi called the roads a “game-changer” for the local economy, while Hasib Mohamed of Stirling Company Limited highlighted the need for faster utility relocation to meet construction targets.
Religious leaders have also supported the initiative, donating church land to facilitate the project. The Mukono Resident District Commissioner, Fatuma Ndisaba, lauded these contributions, which have minimized land acquisition issues.
This road construction is more than an infrastructure upgrade; it signals Mukono's ambitions for growth and modernization. Once completed, it is expected to transform the municipality into a thriving hub for business and tourism.
