Ugandan entrepreneurs have been urged to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) as a strategic tool for business growth and global competitiveness, as the country advances toward middle-income status.
Speaking during a training themed “State of AI: Scaling MSMEs for the Global Marketplace,” Charles Ocici said AI presents a powerful opportunity for local businesses to identify and access international markets more efficiently.
Ocici noted that in an increasingly competitive global economy, Ugandan enterprises must embrace modern technologies to remain relevant. He explained that AI can support market research, product positioning, and operational efficiency.
“As we push for a middle-income economy, Ugandans should embrace AI to promote their products and identify international market opportunities,” he said.
However, he cautioned entrepreneurs against blindly adopting AI tools, warning that some platforms rely on inaccurate or misleading data.
“There are fake or unreliable AI tools out there. Businesses must ensure they are using credible platforms, otherwise they risk being misled,” Ocici added.
He also stressed the importance of aligning digital adoption with regulatory requirements, particularly electronic taxation systems, noting that failure to comply could expose businesses to penalties.
The training also featured insights from Vivek Mohindra, who emphasized the transformative role of AI in scaling micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into global players.
Drawing from his experience in leading AI-driven transformation initiatives, Mohindra encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage AI to improve efficiency, decision-making, and competitiveness.
“Data is the backbone of any AI system. If your data is not well managed, then the insights you generate will not be reliable,” he noted.
Participants were also guided on maintaining proper business records, balancing accounts, and using AI tools to streamline financial management processes.
The training, organized by Enterprise Uganda, is part of broader efforts to equip entrepreneurs with the skills needed to thrive in a digital and globalized economy.
As Uganda positions its private sector for international markets, stakeholders say integrating AI into business operations will be key to unlocking new opportunities, boosting productivity, and driving sustainable economic growth.
