Speaking at the wedding mass of Eddie Godfrey Lubega and Florence Naluyange at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Lubaga, on Saturday, Mayiga said a man who serves the Kabaka must embody Buganda’s undying spirit—a spirit that inspires hope, integrity, and commitment to advancing the kingdom’s prestige.

"A man of the Kabaka is someone who carries the undying spirit of Buganda. This spirit fuels the hope of safeguarding our culture and dignity. We encourage everyone to actively uphold our values through actions that empower communities and help others rise," he said.

Mayiga cited Lubega’s exemplary character during his engagement with the Busujju community under the Emmwanyi Terimba initiative, noting how he generously hosted people at his home and shared resources with those in need.

His actions, Mayiga said, demonstrate a deep commitment to Buganda’s values and the importance of contributing positively to society.

"We want people to witness Buganda’s dignity today, not just celebrate it as a historical legacy. While Buganda has held a proud position for over 300 years, we must recognize and uphold this dignity through the contributions of people living in the present," he added.

The Katikkiro emphasized that Buganda’s prestige is visible in individuals who are productive and socially responsible—those who cultivate resources, pay their dues, educate children, and provide healthcare.

He noted that individuals unable to contribute in these ways cannot truly uphold Buganda’s values. Lubega was recognized for his diligence and dedication to these principles.

Mayiga also highlighted the importance of marriage in strengthening Buganda’s dignity, explaining that through the family unit, children inherit the values necessary to maintain the kingdom’s legacy.

He called on married couples to nurture and educate their children to ensure the heritage of Buganda is preserved and enhanced.

Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mulumba, who officiated the wedding, reminded the couple that marriage is more than a ceremony—it is a lifelong commitment to love, respect, and mutual support.

He emphasized that marriage provides the ideal foundation for raising children, contrasting it with the challenges faced by single-parent households.

"Marriage is ordained by God and remains the best framework for nurturing children. Each partner must contribute fully to the family to ensure a harmonious and thriving household," he said.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests proceeded to Busujju for a reception.
