Police in Luuka have arrested two men in connection with a robbery at Elim Pentecostal Church in the early hours of May 2, 2026.
The suspects, identified as Ashurawi Kafuko and Alex Bikundi, were apprehended during a coordinated operation involving officers from Bulanga Police Station and the canine unit from Iganga.
They were arrested at Emmanson Lodge, located about 500 metres from the scene of the crime.
According to preliminary investigations, at around 1:30 a.m., an unidentified armed man gained entry into the church after pretending to seek prayers for a sick relative. Once inside, he attacked Assistant Pastor Adison Mande, 66, assaulted him and tied him up before making away with several items, including a piano, three loudspeakers and an amplifier.
The victim was later discovered by members of the public in the morning, who alerted church leaders and police.
Busoga North Regional Police spokesperson Samson Lubega confirmed the arrests and said investigations are ongoing.
“We have two suspects in custody to assist with investigations into the aggravated robbery. Our teams are actively pursuing leads to recover the stolen items and to establish whether there are other accomplices involved,” he said.
Police have cautioned the public against opening doors to strangers at odd hours, particularly in isolated areas, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Authorities also commended the swift response of officers and the cooperation of the community, noting that such collaboration is vital in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.
