The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, has pledged that the National Unity Platform (NUP) will continue exposing and holding accountable individuals who misuse public funds once the party secures majority representation in Parliament after the 2026 elections.
Speaking at the launch of NUP’s Lubaga campaigns at Namungoona Playground in Lubaga Division, Ssenyonyi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We shall not stop embarrassing and holding accountable those who swindle taxpayers’ money. Once our flagbearers are voted into office, we shall show Ugandans that leadership can be clean and people-centred,” he said, eliciting loud cheers from supporters.
The event brought together NUP parliamentary flagbearers and councillor candidates from across Kampala, who earlier held a convoy procession through parts of Lubaga before converging at Namungoona Playground.
Rubaga North MP Abubaker Kawalya, who organized the rally and is seeking re-election, reiterated his commitment to defending his constituents’ interests.
“I will continue standing for what benefits the people of Rubaga North. Whenever something in Parliament goes against their interests, I will not hesitate to walk out in protest,” Kawalya said.
The Lubaga campaign launch marks the beginning of NUP’s citywide campaign rollout. Party officials announced that the next stop will be Kamwokya Playground tomorrow, where NUP Secretary General and Kampala Central MP flagbearer David Lewis Rubongoya is expected to officially unveil his campaign.
“Our message is clear — service, honesty, and courage. Kampala deserves leaders who speak for the ordinary citizen,” Rubongoya said ahead of the Kamwokya rally.
The Namungoona event was characterized by energetic chants, red flags, and songs of unity as NUP supporters pledged to deliver victory for their candidates across Kampala.
