The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced the commencement of its internal processes to identify a candidate for the upcoming Kikuube District LC5 Chairperson by-election. The electoral exercise follows the death of district chairperson-elect, Peter Banura Araali, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident on April 4, shortly after being re-elected in the recent general elections.
Speaking during the party’s weekly press briefing at its headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday, Party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat revealed that the Electoral Commission has already issued the roadmap for the by-election. According to the schedule, nominations will take place on May 25 and 26, with polling slated for June 10.
Amuriat emphasized that the party is actively preparing to participate in the race and will field a candidate once internal consultations and selection processes are finalized.
“The FDC has commenced its internal process of candidate identification for this by-election. Once this process is concluded, the FDC will field a candidate to represent the interests of the people of Kikuube District,” he said.
He added that the process has been opened to interested members and supporters within Kikuube District, urging them to formally express interest in contesting for the party flag.
“It is from among those who come forward that the party shall identify and present its flag bearer,” he said.
Beyond the Kikuube by-election, Amuriat disclosed that the party is also mobilizing structures in preparation for the upcoming Local Council One (LC1) elections, which are expected to be conducted nationwide.
LC1 elections, which form the foundation of Uganda’s local governance system, are often seen as a critical grassroots mobilization platform for political parties ahead of larger national contests.
The FDC’s early preparations signal a broader strategy to strengthen its presence at both district and village levels, as political parties position themselves ahead of future electoral cycles.
