Bliss GVS Pharmaceuticals has donated Shs 35m  worth of anti-malarial and dermatological medicines to Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Dr. Sarah Zalwango, KCCA’s Acting Director for Public Health and Environment, received the donation, thanking Bliss GVS for supporting efforts to address health issues, especially during Kampala’s rainy season when malaria spikes.

Dr. Zalwango noted the anti-malarial drugs will aid KCCA in providing timely treatment, as demand often outpaces government supplies. She advised the public to take preventive measures, such as sleeping under mosquito nets and having pregnant women vaccinated.

KCCA runs eight free-treatment clinics, but only 21 of approximately 2,000 health facilities across Kampala are public, making private support essential.

She also highlighted the growing Mpox outbreak, reporting 131 cases in Kampala and 193 in Greater Kampala. Phiona Namugenyi, a Bliss GVS supervisor, emphasised the company’s dedication to aiding local communities and fighting malaria, Uganda’s top cause of death, particularly among children under five.

According to the WHO, malaria claimed over 17,556 lives in Uganda in 2022.

Bliss GVS, specialising in anti-malarial and other medicines, aligns its efforts with the Uganda Malaria Reduction Strategic Plan 2020-2025, which targets a 50% reduction in malaria cases and a 75% reduction in malaria-related deaths by 2025.
