The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has carried out a major clean-up operation in Kagugube, Kisekka, targeting the heavily polluted “Mpa Abaana” drainage channel.
During the early morning exercise, illegal structures were demolished, accumulated waste was removed, and residents were sensitized on maintaining hygiene to prevent health hazards.
KCCA’s public health team led the operation, clearing debris from the drainage channel and enforcing compliance with sanitation standards.
Some residents hurriedly removed their belongings, while others saw their structures brought down during the exercise.
Aisha Nabisere, leading the operation on behalf of KCCA, said: “We carried out this operation because the area had become very dirty, posing serious health risks to the community.”
She emphasized residents’ role in keeping their surroundings clean, adding: “It is the responsibility of residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings so as to fight diseases and other related dangers.”
KCCA officials continued the cleanup by collecting large volumes of garbage, which were later transported away by city garbage trucks.
