Police in Mityana have arrested three suspects linked to an aggravated robbery that occurred on August 3 in Mizigo Cell, Central Division, Mityana District.

The robbery took place around 4am when a group of masked individuals armed with pangas, torches, and sticks attacked 27-year-old businessman Samuel Shema at his rented residence in Mizigo.

Rachael Kawala, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, reported that the assailants, who threatened to kill Shema if he made any noise, scaled the wall fence to access the property.

"During the robbery, they stole two mobile phones—an iPhone XS Max and a Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus—along with Shs35 million in cash," Kawala said.

Following the incident, a case of aggravated robbery was reported to Mityana Police Station under case reference number CRB: 868/2024. Police immediately launched an investigation into the crime.

On August 24, 2024, police arrested three suspects: David Kyagulanyi (23), John Bosco Ssebutinde (22), and Geoffrey Makumbi (24), all residents of Kinvunikide, Mityana District.

The arrests were made following intelligence-led operations, during which the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to sharing the stolen money.

A search of the suspects' shared residence led to the recovery of various items believed to have been used in the robbery, including a hammer, pliers, one large torch, two small torches, a pair of desert shoes, a pair of gumboots, and four hooded jumpers.

Additionally, police recovered two motorcycles with registration numbers UFW 866V and UFS 346Z, both purchased using the stolen money. New clothes bought by the suspects with the stolen funds were also seized as evidence.

"The case file has been compiled and is pending submission to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for possible sanctioning," Kawala added.
