A mother in Pallisa District was arrested for allegedly strangling her two-year-old son amid a troubled marriage.

Police in Pallisa District are investigating a tragic case involving the alleged murder of a two-year-old boy by his mother.

The deceased, identified as Julius Edekenai Junior, was the son of Julius Edekenai Senior, both residents of Okalibwok Cell, West Ward, Pallisa Town Council.

The suspect, 22-year-old Rose Kayendeke, was arrested on Sunday on allegations of strangling her son to death during a heavy downpour inside their kitchen on the evening of August 17, 2024.

The incident was reported to the Pallisa Central Police Station by the village chairperson, Johnson Obakuku.

Preliminary reports indicate that Kayendeke had been in a troubled marriage with her husband, who allegedly took a second wife and moved to Mbale City.

On the morning of the incident, her husband left for work in Tororo, leaving her alone with their son, who was reportedly healthy at the time.

The child's lifeless body was discovered by his grandmother, Margaret Amoding, who immediately alerted the authorities.

Police have registered the case under CRB 336/2024, and investigations are ongoing.

Kayendeke is currently in police custody as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the child's death.
