A former sub-county chairperson in Kassanda District was on Thursday charged with the murder of his own father.

Josam Tandeka Kabuuti appeared before the Mubende Magistrates Court along with his co-accused Hamza Asiimwe on grounds of murder, theft and aggravated robbery.

Prosecution said the duo committed the offence of May 23 at Kiwangula Village in Kassanda.

Chief Magistrate Caroline Byakutaaga, while bringing the charges up for mention, said the two intentionally and unlawfully engaged in the death of Kezikiya Kabuuti.

"The second case states that you broke and entered in the house of Kabuuti at night which is against the law," she said.

"The third case is about aggravated robbery whereby it's alleged that on that day of May 23 at Kiwangula village, you stole a solar and it's battery, television and a phone worth Shs1.2 million belonging to the late Kabuuti."

Byakutaaga denied the suspects a chance to say anything, saying among their charges was a capital offence triable by a higher court.

"As you have heard that your are charged with a murder case is is classified capital offence, this court can not allow you to say anything until you are produced to the high court," she said.

State Anthony Sarah Bivanju requested for an adjournment because they are still investigating the matter.

"Investigations into this matter are still ongoing and we request for the adjournment," Bivanju told the court.

She also requested the magistrate to separate the two while remanding them.

"Your worship, for safety of the suspects, I request you to separate them because they might harm themselves while in the same prison," she said.

Byakutaaga agreed with the state attorney and remanded Tandeka to Kitalya Prison while Asiimwe to Muyinayiina Prison in Kassambya Constituency Mubende.

The case has been adjourned until August 22 for further hearing.
