Student shot dead intervening in a robbery
SOROTI | A student from Soroti Pharmaceutical College was Friday night shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle.
Patrick Olinga, believed to be in his early 20s, was killed along Engunyu Road in Camp Swahili when he attempted to foil a robbery by unidentified persons riding a motorcycle.
According to ASP Edison Obukulem, the acting East Kyoga Police spokesperson, the assailants fled with a bag containing an unspecified sum of money belonging to a local businessman the deceased tried to help.
Olinga was a student at Soroti Pharmaceutical College.
Witnesses the deceased attempted to intervene when one of the assailants shot at him.
"The deceased was trying to help a friend whose bag was being snatched, resulting in his fatal shooting," said a witness.
Police have cordoned off the crime scene, and the victim's body was transported to the mortuary for postmortem.
Police have appealed for information leading to the arrest of the assailants.
