The Federation of East Africa School Sports Association (FEASSA) has approved Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School as the hosts for the 2024 FEASSA games, after they met all necessary requirements.
With less than a month remaining until this year’s games, Eastern Uganda welcomed the FEASSA delegation for final inspections. The team, which included officials from Uganda (the hosts), Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zanzibar, spent a day in Mbale and Bukedea evaluating over 17 competition venues.
The delegation began its tour in Mbale, where they inspected venues including Mbale Stadium, Mbale SS, Mbale Sports Club, Mbale Rugby Club Union Ground, Mbale Cricket Ground, Mbale School of Health Sciences, Mbale School of Hygiene, Islamic University in Uganda, and Nakaloke T/C Playground.
The inspection then continued in Bukedea, covering Bukedea Booma Grounds, Bukedea Primary School, Bukedea Comprehensive School Stadium, the Bukedea Comprehensive School Indoor Arena with a 4,000-seat capacity, the Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool, the Bukedea Comprehensive School Natural Grass Pitch, Amus College Pitches (A-D), and Amus Stadium.
Justus Mugisha, the FEASSA President and USSSA leader, expressed his gratitude for the numerous venues they have visited. He noted, “We have been assured that even those still under construction will be completed promptly. We’re particularly pleased with facilities built specifically for school sports and within the school environment. We believe Uganda is well-prepared to be the best host for the regional games.”
Mugisha also confirmed that several dignitaries are expected to officiate, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, ISF President Laurent Patrynk, the FEASSA President, and others.
FEASSA General Secretary David Ngugi expressed confidence in Uganda’s readiness to host the games, citing substantial investments in the facilities. “The final touches on any structure are crucial for its overall appeal. I am confident that we will enjoy using these facilities,” Ngugi said.
The 2024 FEASSA Games are scheduled for August 16-27, with 13 sports disciplines confirmed. Uganda will field over 1,300 athletes and 60 teams, bringing the total number of participants to over 3,500 for the championships.
