Division one shake up: Enabu and Okello swap oilers for Knight riders
The national Silverbacks players Jimmy Enabu and James Okello have joined the Knight Riders basketball team, an unexpected and perhaps game-changing decision.
After an astonishing nine-time championship run with the City Oilers, the pair is anticipated to bring their winning experience to the Knight Riders, who presently have a 7–8 record in Division One and have failed to find consistent play.
Enabu, known for his exceptional leadership on the court, and Okello, a powerhouse in both defense and offense, are among the most celebrated players in Ugandan basketball.
Their contributions to the City Oilers' dominance in the National Basketball League (NBL) are well-documented, with both players being instrumental in securing multiple titles for the team. Now, as they join the Knight Riders, the question on everyone's mind is whether their experience and skill will be enough to elevate the team to new heights.
The Knight Riders have shown flashes of potential throughout the season but have struggled with consistency, particularly in closing out games against stronger opponents.
With Enabu’s ability to control the tempo and make crucial plays in clutch moments, and Okello’s versatility in both scoring and defending, the team is poised to become a more formidable force in Division One.
"Adding players of Jimmy and James' Okello to our team is a massive boost," said Knight Riders head coach
"Their experience in high-pressure situations, combined with their basketball IQ, will not only improve our performance on the court but also elevate the mindset of the entire team."
For Enabu and Okello, the move to a Division One team presents a unique challenge and an opportunity to make a lasting impact. Both players have expressed excitement about the new chapter in their careers, emphasizing their commitment to helping the Knight Riders achieve their goals.
"The Knight Riders have a lot of potential, and I'm looking forward to being part of their journey," said Enabu. "Our aim is to bring the same level of intensity and discipline that helped us succeed with the Oilers, and hopefully, that will be the key to turning things around here."
Okello echoed his teammate’s sentiments, adding, "We’re here to win. Division One is a competitive league, and we're ready to give it our all to help the team secure a spot in the National Basketball League."
The addition of Enabu and Okello to the Knight Riders could be the catalyst that propels the team to the next level. With their proven track record and championship mentality, many are optimistic that the Knight Riders now have the tools they need to make a serious push for promotion to the NBL.
However, the road ahead is far from easy, and it will take more than just star power to secure their place among the elite teams in Ugandan basketball.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the Knight Riders to see if these new additions can indeed carry the team to the heights they aspire to reach.
