Ethashiel Junior School and the local community in Nabbaale, Mukono District, have joined the rest of Buganda Kingdom in a clean-up exercise aimed at raising awareness about HIV/Aids.
The campaign, spearheaded by Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, continues to gain momentum, with schools and communities actively embracing his call for collective responsibility in the fight against the disease.
At Ethashiel Junior School in Nabbaale village, pupils, teachers, and administrators participated in a series of activities focused on both health awareness and environmental protection.
The school organised general cleaning exercises and tree planting campaigns to promote a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable environment.
The activities also form part of preparations for the Kabaka’s upcoming 71st birthday, which has increasingly been marked by community service initiatives and public health awareness campaigns, particularly targeting HIV/Aids.
The school’s director, Vicent Ssekanjako, said involving young learners in such efforts helps instill discipline and a sense of responsibility while equipping them with knowledge about HIV prevention and environmental conservation.
Pupils were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles, avoid risky behaviour, and serve as ambassadors of change within their communities.
The Kabaka has consistently used his birthday platform to mobilise his subjects in the fight against HIV/Aids, emphasising prevention, testing, and the need to eliminate stigma.
The participation of institutions like Ethashiel Junior School reflects the growing reach of the campaign, as more communities take practical steps to support the cause.
As Buganda prepares to mark the milestone, the message remains clear: the fight against HIV/Aids goes hand in hand with building healthy environments and responsible communities.
