The baby was born safely at MSWNH, a facility known for offering highly specialised reproductive and neonatal services. This milestone comes just one year after the hospital’s IVF program became operational in August 2024.

According to hospital management, the second IVF birth affirms growing confidence in the hospital’s fertility program and highlights the Government of Uganda’s commitment to making advanced fertility services affordable and accessible. IVF treatment at MSWNH is offered at a significantly lower cost compared to private facilities.

“This achievement is a testament to the expertise and dedication of our team,” said Dr. Sam Ononge, Ag. Executive Director of MSWNH. “We are proud to provide hope to couples who once thought parenthood was out of reach.”

So far, more than 10 pregnancies have been achieved through IVF at the hospital, demonstrating strong early results in a program that is still in its infancy.

Infertility affects millions globally, yet treatment remains out of reach for many due to high costs. MSWNH’s affordable IVF service is among the few of its kind in Uganda’s public health sector, helping to close the gap in reproductive care access.

With this second successful IVF delivery, Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital is strengthening its position as a regional leader in reproductive health and fulfilling its vision “to be a Centre of Excellence in Specialised Reproductive and Neonatal Health Care in Africa.”
