Believers at Rubaga Cathedral jeered and booed vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi as he made his Christmas day speech.
It all started when Ssekandi was invited to give his speech before the congregation and he started by giving a lecture about the constitution and its amendments.
“We applaud the religious leaders for always counselling people,”Ssekandi begun his Christmas day speech at Rubaga Cathedral.
He later divulged into educating the congregation about the drafting of the 1995 Constitution and some of its provisions.
Ssekandi said that he was part of the individuals who framed and drafted the 1995 constitution that the country is using up to now.
“We know we could not be perfect and therefore put in a chapter for amendment stressing that the constitution can be changed,”Ssekandi said attracting jeers from the congregation.
"We put in that chapter even before signing that you can delete, add or change the provisions in the constitution.”
Despite continued heckling by the congregation, the vice president who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for Bukoto County Central constituency continued with his explanation about the just concluded constitutional amendment.
He however called upon the members of the public to always hear each other out despite their disagreements.
Last week, Parliament passed the controversial age limit bill that seeks to lift the presidential age limit from the constitution.
A total of 317 MPs voted in favour of the motion to lift the upper age limit of 75 years where 97 legislators voted against.
