Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has accused Kampala Minister Beti Kamya of working around the clock to influence KCCA councillors to support lifting of the age limit.
Speaking during a news conference on Thursday at City Hall, Lukwago said that the Kampala Minister is calendstinely recruiting city councillors in a bid to rally them to support the lifting of the presidential age limit from the Constitution.
"She has been working behind the scenes to use some of my councillors as a launch pad for supporting the Magyezi bill in Kampala, "Lukwago told journalists.
"Consequently, she has organised to take them(councillors) to Kyankwanzi for brainwashing and later meet president Museveni."
To clarify on the claims , Lukwago displayed a letter by Kamya to KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi in which the former requested for allowances during the week long training in Kyankwanzi.
"As discussed with you verbally, this is to confirm that KCCA and urban councillors whose names appear on the attached list have been admitted to a leadership training program in the National Leadership Training Institute in Kyankwanzi, "reads in part, the letter by the Kampala minister dated 31, October.
This, according to Lukwago is not a mere training for KCCA councillors but meant to "brainwash" and "indoctrinate" them into supporting lifting of the age limit.
"In Kyankwanzi, they are slated to meet President Museveni and show their support for the bill but I want to warn whoever is involved that this is not organised by KCCA."
"We have made our position as KCCA clear on the age limit and it is known by everyone,"Lukwago noted.
According to the Kampala Lord Mayor , he would work tooth and nail to ensure Beti Kamya's plans fail because they don't reflect the will of the people of Kampala.
Lukwago warned that he would summon a KCCA council meeting soon in which they would denounce actions by a section of councillors under the stewardship of the Kampala Minister Beti Kamya
