Simpson Birungi, the managing director of Movit Products Limited was released yesterday after spending more than month under detention.
Birungi was arrested on June 7 by ISO operatives. The ISO operatives later handed him over to police and he was detained at Kireka Special Investigations Directorate, former Violent Crime Crack Unit, for alleged murder of his former manager, Stephen Asaba, in 2010.
But he was released on police bond and re-arrested by ISO.
He was then detained at an unknown place.
The terms of his release were not immediately made clear but it is understood that the family appealed to President Museveni for help after other avenues of securing his release had failed.
Last month, Birungi's family petitioned the civil division of the High Court in Kampala demanding for his release.
Court indeed ordered that Birungi be produced in court but the security operatives declined to release him.
Friends and relatives jubilated after the news of his release.
Music promoter Balaam Barugahara took to his Facebook and thanked God for Birungi's release.
"Special thanks to the authorities for clearing his name and image of any criminal charges 45 days plus of keeping him under lock was so painful and hurting but thank God, he has been set free and the truth shall be known," he wrote.
