The outgoing vice president, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has advised Jessica Alupo to remain obedient to President Museveni at all times.

He made the remarks shortly after handing over office to Alupo, who appointed vice president a couple of weeks ago.

Ssekandi served in the office for 10 years.

"Given the nature of the office, she should help the president to fulfil his promises to the people of Uganda. You should try your best to do the best and if you have made a mistake, try to correct it and go and apologise and then you move forward. Basically I want her to use her energy and knowledge to do the best for the country,"Ssekandi advised.

He also thanked the people of Bukoto Central in Masaka who trusted him for the time he represented them in Parliament.

Moments after taking office, Alupo pledged to help drive Uganda to middle income status.

She noted that the issue of service delivery is one of the key items on her agenda.

“I would like all the women of Uganda to own this honour that His Excellency has given us as women and use it as an instrument of social economic transformation together with men. We shall not work in isolation,"she said.

"We are moving towards monetising the economy and when we monetise our economy fully, you and I know that we shall create more jobs. We shall enhance the production of more goods and services. We shall grow our technology and consequently widen our tax base and that will help boost our economy,"she stated.
