The Archbishop Emeritus of Kampala, Emmanuel Wamala, has applauded officials from the Uganda Human Rights Commission for their continued efforts in protecting and promoting human rights and social justice across the country.
Cardinal Wamala made the remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the commission to recognise the Catholic Church as a key partner in advancing human rights in Uganda.
“I am with you and I pray for you,” Cardinal Wamala said.
The meeting was led by UHRC Commissioner Lamex Omara Apitta, who emphasized the important role religious institutions play in advocating for justice, peace and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Officials noted that the partnership between the commission and the Catholic Church is expected to strengthen awareness on human rights and enhance community engagement on issues of justice and equality.“The mission of the Catholic Church therefore aligns with the mandate of the UHRC to protect and promote respect for human rights for all persons in Uganda,” Lamex said.
Cardinal Wamala encouraged continued collaboration between government institutions and faith-based organisations in promoting dignity, fairness and harmony within society.
The engagement forms part of broader efforts by the Uganda Human Rights Commission to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders involved in promoting constitutional rights, civic awareness and social justice across the country.
