Next Media, through its Taasa Obutonde environmental campaign, reaffirmed its commitment to climate action by sponsoring the Run4Climate Marathon held on Sunday, 29th June at the Hockey Grounds in Lugogo.

Partnering on this initiative aligns seamlessly with Next Media’s broader 15 Million Trees Campaign, an ambitious movement to inspire environmental consciousness across Uganda. “It’s more than just planting trees; it’s about growing a mindset shift toward sustainability,” said Shafik Nekambuza, NBS Brand Manager. “Climate change is real, and the earlier we take action, the better for future generations. At NBS, we are proud to use our platform to drive awareness and inspire collective responsibility.”

Organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment in collaboration with Tree Adoption Uganda (TAU), the Run4Climate targets mass reforestation, aiming to plant 40 million trees annually, symbolically matching Uganda’s current population.

This year’s event continues efforts to combat Uganda’s alarming deforestation rates, which have reduced national forest cover from 54% in 1900 to just 12% today. Through climate education, seedling distribution, and youth engagement, the marathon stands as a national call to action.

Beyond this event, Next Media has been a consistent voice in environmental sustainability, having supported other climate-focused initiatives like and Taasa Obutonde’s core campaign pillars of reduce, reuse, and recycle, and now, the My Waste My Responsibility campaign, which promotes proper waste management practices.
