When Pastor Wilson Bugembe made the bold decision to pause live broadcasts of his Celebrity Sunday services. 2023, it wasn’t because they had failed; it was because they had become too successful. During his appearance on Ruth Kalibbala’s YouTube channel, the renowned gospel musician and founder of The Worship House recently reflected on how overwhelming viewership and attendance, driven largely by media exposure through NBS TV, led him to temporarily withdraw the show from television altogether.
“There was a time when my church was so famous, but we didn’t have enough parking spaces or proper toilet facilities. So, we paused Celebrity Sundays,” Pastor Bugembe shared.
At the height of COVID-19 lockdowns, NBS TV’s broadcasts of The Worship House’s services peaked in viewership, especially at noon, an insight shared by Next Media Group CEO Kin Kariisa himself. This strong media presence turned the Nansana-based church into a national spiritual destination, drawing people from all walks of life.
Bugembe, recognizing the limits of his infrastructure, made the difficult but responsible choice to pause Celebrity Sunday and even halt TV broadcasts temporarily.
“I told Kin Kariisa that my crowd would be disappointed if they came to the Worship House and found inadequate facilities,” he noted.
The story of Celebrity Sunday is a powerful example of how media, especially through platforms like NBS TV, can amplify impact and reach, inspiring action and real-world change. It’s a reflection of Next Media’s vision to “Inform to Transform” in action.
