Jamaican Dancehall Star Spice Arrives in Uganda Ahead of Lugogo Concert

Jamaican dancehall artiste Spice has arrived in Uganda ahead of her much-anticipated concert scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala.

The singer was officially welcomed  during a press conference held at the Nile Breweries Limited headquarters in Luzira.

The event was hosted by Nile Breweries Limited (NBL), through its flagship brand Nile Special, in partnership with Africa One Tours and Travel Limited’s entertainment brand Safari Beats.

Originally scheduled for December 2025, the concert was postponed to May 2026 to allow organisers to deliver what they described as a broader entertainment and cultural experience combining music, tourism and Ugandan heritage.

Spice is expected to headline the concert alongside some of Uganda’s leading female performers including Cindy Sanyu, Karole Kasita and Winnie Nwagi.

Other artistes on the lineup include Ziza Bafana, Navio and Mark D Urban, while DJs Slick Stuart and Naselow are also expected to perform.

Organisers say the event aims to celebrate female excellence in music while strengthening Uganda’s growing reputation as a destination for international entertainment events.

Speaking during the press conference, Nile Special Brand Manager Eric Malinga said the partnership goes beyond entertainment and reflects a wider cultural vision.

“What we are building here goes far beyond a single night of entertainment. This is about aligning with a mindset of boldness, excellence and authenticity,” Malinga said.

“Spice represents that on a global scale, and our Ugandan artists embody it locally in a way that continues to shape the sound and identity of this market,” he added.

Malinga said the concert and related activities are designed to showcase Ugandan culture and create memorable experiences for fans.

“As Nile Special, we see this as an opportunity to celebrate that shared spirit while also elevating the experience for consumers. From today’s welcome to the final moment on stage at Lugogo, every touchpoint has been designed to reflect quality, pride and a distinctly Ugandan sense of occasion,” he said.

Spice expressed excitement about visiting Uganda for the first time and interacting with local fans.

“I’m truly excited to be in Uganda. From the moment I arrived, the energy, the warmth of the people and the richness of the culture have been incredible,” Spice said.

“This isn’t just about performing for me — it’s about connecting with the fans, experiencing the country and celebrating the power of music to bring people together,” she added.

Beyond the concert, Spice is expected to participate in several tourism and cultural activities, including visits to heritage sites and a tour of Murchison Falls National Park.

Safari Beats Chief Executive Officer Paula Nahamya said the week-long programme was intentionally designed to promote Uganda’s tourism and cultural identity through entertainment.

“Every element of Spice’s itinerary has been designed to connect her global influence with Uganda’s cultural depth and natural beauty,” Nahamya said.

“Whether it’s engaging with heritage sites, interacting with local audiences or experiencing destinations like Murchison Falls, this is about creating moments that resonate beyond the stage,” she added.

The concert will conclude with an official after-party in Kampala following Saturday’s performance.

The event is supported by several partners including the Uganda Tourism Board, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda Airlines.

Production for the concert is being handled by ATS Events, while digital coverage will be powered by content creators Wazo Dazo.
