A new wave of experiential nightlife has been introduced in northern Uganda following the launch of the Captain Morgan “Takeover” party series at Northern Pearl Hostel in Gulu over the weekend.
Despite early evening rains that threatened to disrupt the event, the launch proceeded with a high-energy, gamified experience that organisers say marks a shift toward more interactive, captain-led entertainment.
The new concept is designed to place partygoers at the centre of the action through structured games and group challenges, transforming traditional nightlife into an immersive social experience.
Activities at the Gulu launch included team-based games such as Anchor Tug, Bucket Brigade for the Rum Run, Giant Ludo, Bean Toss, pool corner competitions, and a series of mini challenges spread across the venue.
The event was led by brand ambassadors including Jerry Berry, Jokwiz Klean, and Abbey Tumusiime, who guided the crowd through dance battles, hype sessions, and interactive competitions that kept energy levels high despite the weather.
Speaking at the launch, Captain Morgan Brand Manager Raymond Karama said the Gulu edition tested the strength of the new concept and its ability to adapt to unpredictable conditions.
“Gulu was the ultimate test of our Captain’s spirit. We sailed through a storm early on to reclaim our territory with a vibe that is bolder and more interactive than ever,” Karama said.
He added that the experience marks the beginning of a wider rollout across the country, with upcoming activations planned in Nkozi and Vibes Nzuri.
According to organisers, the “Captain Takeovers” are designed as a travelling entertainment series that blends music, games, and social interaction into a unified party format.
As the evening progressed, DJ Wiz J kept the crowd engaged with continuous mixes that carried the event into the early hours of the morning.
Despite the initial downpour, attendees described the event as a successful and engaging experience, noting that the weather ultimately added to the atmosphere rather than diminishing it.
Organisers say the Gulu debut signals the start of a new entertainment concept aimed at redefining nightlife experiences in hostel and campus-adjacent venues across Uganda.
