The music began gently, blending Amapiano rhythms with electronic undertones, yet something deeper was building beneath it all. This was not just a party, it marked a shift in how Kampala experiences tequila, one refined sip at a time.

What initially drew many was DJ Dash’s birthday, but what unfolded became far more lasting. Known for his  electrifying sets across Kampala’s nightlife scene, DJ Dash carries a magnetic energy that naturally draws people in.

That same charisma made him the perfect host for a night that demanded both style and substance.

As guests arrived from 7pm, elegance defined the atmosphere. Tables filled quickly, conversations flowed in every corner, and every detail felt carefully curated.

The fact that it was the beginning of the week quickly became irrelevant as the venue took on the pulse of a typical Friday or Saturday night.

The true transformation of the evening unfolded at the Don’s Table, an experience that quietly became the heart of the night. Here, groups of three gathered to slow down and rediscover tequila as a premium spirit. Guided by Uganda Breweries Ltd, UBL, Reserve Brand Ambassador, Melanie Kaita, each session felt like a dialogue between palate and spirit. Guests leaned in, curious at first, then fully engaged as the layers of Don Julio revealed themselves.

The experience began with Don Julio Blanco, crisp and luminous, carrying bright agave notes lifted by citrus, finishing clean and refreshing. It was an introduction that awakened the senses instantly.

This was followed by the Reposado, softer and more rounded, its time in oak bringing out hints of caramel, vanilla and gentle spice, lingering just enough to invite another sip. Finally came the Añejo, rich and contemplative, with deep toasted agave, warm oak and a smooth, lasting finish that demanded attention. It was not just tasted, it was experienced.

Kaita guided each guest with warmth and precision, reframing everything many thought they knew about tequila. She explained that tequila is not confined to hurried shots and predictable rituals. “It can be sipped slowly, appreciated like a fine whisky, or explored through thoughtfully crafted cocktails,” she said. Each expression, she added, carries its own moment. Blanco for vibrancy, Reposado for balance, Añejo for depth and connection.

Around the table, reactions evolved from surprise to delight. Conversations became more animated as guests compared notes and shared discoveries. Some admitted they had never experienced tequila this way before, while others were already deciding which bottle would define their next celebration. What began as curiosity gradually turned into clear preference.

Adding to these moments of discovery, Reserve Mixologist Jane Apio introduced another engaging dimension to the evening. For early guests, she crafted a selection of cocktails that highlighted the spirit’s versatility. The classic Margarita arrived bright and refreshing, Don Paloma offered a crisp, citrus-driven profile, while the Tequila Sunrise delivered both visual appeal and smooth flavor. Each cocktail reinforced the idea that the Don Julio core range offers a distinct experience, each tailored to a different moment.

Meanwhile, energy on the main floor continued to build through a back-to-back DJ showcase, with performers taking to the decks in pairs. The duos included City Girl and DJ Ames, Edwizzy and DJ Mato, while the Wav Bros delivered their set together. The main celebrant, DJ Dash, also teamed up with Don Julio influencer, DJ Spinny. Sheilah Gashumba, also known as DJ Lil Stunner, the Don Julio ambassador for the 1942 range, emerged as a surprise highlight of the night, as she had not been listed on the lineup.

Then came the unmistakable peak of the evening. Bottles of Don Julio 1942 made their entrance, ushered in by the now iconic Dorime soundtrack, sending waves of excitement across the venue. Phones were lifted, glasses raised, and for a moment, the entire room moved as one. It was theatre, celebration and aspiration all at once.

Yet even with that spectacle, the most lasting impact remained in the quieter, more intimate moments of discovery. The laughter shared over a perfectly balanced Reposado, the pause that followed a sip of Añejo, and the realization that tequila, when experienced this way, becomes something far more meaningful.

As dawn approached and guests stepped out into the early morning air, they carried more than memories of a great night. They left with new preferences, new rituals and a deeper appreciation for what tequila can be.

The evening had reshaped perception, transforming Don Julio from a familiar name into a personal choice.
