Creata Connect on Africa Podcast Day brought together podcasters, creatives, and industry leaders at the Next Conference Centre for a conversation rooted in learning, access, and community.
Hosted under Next Creata, the event reaffirmed its commitment to creating space for young creatives to network, grow, and feel heard.
The session opened with Alan Kasujja, a veteran broadcaster, former BBC Africa Daily host, and newly appointed Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre. He spoke on starting a podcast with intention, introducing the idea that context plus content creates connection.
He challenged creators to understand their metrics, spend time in data, and simplify complex ideas into accessible storytelling.
Asked about sustaining motivation beyond monetisation, his response centered on collaboration and shared purpose.
George the Poet followed with reflections on creative discipline, sustainability, and monetisation.
He emphasized relevance over numbers, alignment with brands, and the importance of understanding one’s value through collaboration and support systems.
Aggie Patricia Turwomwe, host of the ON Uganda Podcast and a leading voice in Uganda’s podcast ecosystem, was instrumental in bringing the local podcasting community together for the event.
Through her collaboration with Next Creata, she helped ensure that podcasters were not only present but actively engaged, reinforcing the importance of community, identity, and independent growth in the creative journey.
The conversation was further enriched by Ibrahim Bbosa from the Uganda Communications Commission, who emphasized responsible podcasting, and closed by Chris Baryomunsi, who offered assurance of government support and open engagement.
