Renowned musician Patrick Mulwana, widely known as Alien Skin, has pledged to support Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Mathias Mpuuga in championing the welfare of Uganda's youth.
The singer, who officially signed a political alliance with the former Leader of Opposition (LoP), used the platform to deliver a message about morality and justice in society.
“If you have your relative in prison, get time and pray for him. Not everyone who is in prison has committed a crime, and it is not that whoever is not in prison is not a sinner,” Alien Skin remarked.
He went on to draw parallels between his own past legal troubles and allegations previously leveled against Mpuuga.
“I was accused of stealing a phone, and my elder [Mpuuga] was also accused of stealing Shs 500 million. So, birds of the same feather..[flock together],” he said.
The remarks, which were seen as an attempt to highlight societal double standards, sparked mixed reactions.
Mpuuga, avoiding direct comment on the statements, focused on the alliance’s mission, describing it as a platform for justice and unity.
“The Democratic Alliance is a platform for unity and justice. We aim to restore dignity to Ugandans and bring about the change this country desperately needs,” Mpuuga said.
On December 6, Mpuuga officially unveiled the Democratic Alliance (DA) as he positions himself for the 2026 general elections.
Addressing an audience that included former members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the Democratic Party, he explained that the DA would initially operate as a civic platform before transitioning into an electoral entity.
“In a few months, we are consulting; it will be an electoral platform,” he said.
Mpuuga emphasized that the DA aims to be a political home for all Ugandans, particularly the youth yearning for redefined politics.
“I have proposed reforms in our electoral system. I have also proposed reforms and amendments in our constitution. Some people are asking, ‘Why is he the one bringing the reforms?’ My question is, why haven’t you brought them?” he stated.
“This country is a suffering nation. It is a sick country. People are sick, tired, and injured. People need healing, and it must come from our common unity of purpose to deliver one single mission—saving the country from the abyss,” he added.
Mpuuga’s latest political move comes months after a fallout with Robert Kyagulanyi and the National Unity Platform, leading to his suspension from the party.
The suspension stemmed from allegations of corruption and abuse of office after he reportedly received a Shs500 million “service reward” from Parliament.
In response to the accusations, Mpuuga claimed he was being targeted by a “small group with personal interests” intent on distracting from the party’s internal issues. Since then, Mpuuga and the NUP have been embroiled in political disputes.
Despite the fallout, Mpuuga assured supporters that the DA remains open to collaboration with all parties, including the Kavule-based NUP, regardless of past differences.
