The Traffic Police Directorate has announced strict traffic guidelines for the 9th Edition of the Nyege Nyege Festival at Jinja Club.
Kiira Region’s Regional Traffic Officer, Mable Asingwire, stated that some roads will be closed starting Thursday, November 14, through Sunday, November 17, to enhance security during the festival.
“As part of the security protocols for Nyege Nyege, we will have road diversions and closures,” Asingwire informed journalists.
Affected routes include Nile Crescent, from Brisk Hotel and Recreation Centre up to the Kisinja Road junction. This stretch will remain closed for the festival’s four-day duration.
No motorized transport will be allowed past Kisinja Road Junction toward Jinja Club.
“Motorists on Kiira Road coming from Kampala will be diverted at Kisinja Road Junction, with parking designated around that area,” Asingwire said. “Those heading to the city center should take the upper route, while those going to Jinja Club must leave their vehicles at the official parking area on Kisinja Road.”
Another closed section will be between Kisinja Road and Kyaggwe Avenue, where only pedestrians will be allowed to proceed to the festival venue.
For motorists using Obote Way to reach Jinja Club, there will be a cut-off at Brisk Hotel and Recreation Centre, beyond which no vehicles will be allowed.
Asingwire noted that residents in affected areas will be issued special permits to access their homes, and all schools within the area will have clear passage.
To prevent vehicle vandalism and ensure the safety of personal belongings, police have urged festival-goers and service providers to park only in designated spaces that will be monitored by law enforcement.
“I am aware there may be illegal parking areas, but I encourage visitors to use only designated parking zones, where Police will ensure the safety of vehicles and belongings,” Asingwire said.
The annual Nyege Nyege Festival draws numerous international and local attendees who come together for four days of music and arts events.
