First lady lauds African Gold Refinery for aiding special needs children

The first lady, Janet Kataha Museveni has lauded the African Gold Refinery (AGR) for its noble contribution towards helping children with special needs.

Janet Museveni made the remarks on Friday while commissioning a classroom block at Entebbe Social Welfare School, the school for children with special needs.

She revealed that the ministry of Education is working hard to integrate children with special needs and also hailed Entebbe Social Welfare School for the great care towards children with special needs.

Alain Goetz, the Director of African Gold Refinery (AGR) the company that financed the construction of the new classroom block, commended the government of Uganda for establishing a school for children with special needs.

The Entebbe Municipality MP, Rosemary Tumusiime, appealed to the government to continue supporting children with special needs saying they’re highly stigmatised.

Christine Mugwanya, the headteacher of the school asked the government to construct a new dormitory for girls and to recruit more teachers to solve the problem of the poor teacher to pupil ratio at the school.

The school started in 1985 with two pupils and one teacher.

Currently it has  more than 70 pupils and nine teachers.
