Hoima District Local Government has launched the implementation of education infrastructure projects worth Shs560 million aimed at improving the quality of education service delivery and providing a safer learning environment for pupils.

The projects, funded under the School Facilities Grant (SFG) for the 2025/26 financial year, were officially launched by a team led by the Hoima Resident District Commissioner, Rogers Mbabazi, in Kapapi, Kisukuma and Bombo sub-counties.

Among the projects is the construction of a three-classroom block at Kapapi Primary School in Kapapi Sub-county, being undertaken by Basingo Contractors at a cost of Shs177.7 million.

The Hoima District Education Officer, Harriet Kihumuro, said the new block will help ease congestion at the school, which had an enrolment of 1,759 pupils by the close of last term in 2025.

Kihumuro noted that some pupils at Kapapi Primary School have been studying under a makeshift tent due to inadequate classroom space, a situation that has affected effective learning.

Other projects launched include the construction of a five-stance pit latrine at Kyamukwenda Primary School in Kapapi Sub-county, contracted to Gervinho Contractors at a cost of Shs32 million, and a two-classroom block at Bukona Primary School in Kisukuma Sub-county, also being built by Basingo Contractors at Shs120 million.

In Bombo Sub-county, the RDC launched works on a two-classroom block at Kitemba Primary School, being constructed by Muda Construction Company at a cost of Shs109 million, as well as a two-classroom block at Haiguru I Primary School, contracted to Bamusi Field Contractors at Shs120 million.

RDC Rogers Mbabazi commended the district administration for allocating public funds to projects he said will benefit thousands of learners by improving access to education in a safe and conducive environment.

Hoima District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha, represented by Vice Chairperson Hellen Mulumba, said the district remains committed to improving education standards, particularly through investment in essential infrastructure to support teaching and learning.
