The Ministry of Education and Sports has called on all education institutions to prioritize the registration of teaching staff on the Education Management Information System (EMIS) to ensure timely and accurate data for grant payments and salary disbursements.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ketty Lamaro, emphasised the importance of this registration process in a recent statement.
EMIS has been adopted as the primary source of data for determining the payment of grants to government education institutions.
However, despite previous reminders, the registration of teaching staff remains low, causing concerns over the accuracy and timeliness of salary payments.
In a statement, Lamaro highlighted the urgency of the situation and outlined three key points.
"Request all government institutions to upload their teaching and non-teaching staff on the EMIS portal by 15th April 2024. Failure to abide by this deadline is likely to delay payment of April salaries," stated Lamaro.
This directive emphasizes the need for government institutions to promptly comply with the registration process to avoid any potential salary delays for teachers.
Furthermore, private institutions were also urged to prioritize the uploading of their teaching and non-teaching staff on the EMIS portal by the end of the first term of the academic year. This move aims to ensure comprehensive data collection across both public and private educational institutions.
Lamaro also highlighted the legal requirement for all teachers to be registered in the Teacher Management Information System (TMIS) portal.
"No person shall teach in any public or private school of any description unless he or she is registered as a teacher or licensed to teach by Section 11 of the Education Act."
She emphasised the need for institutions to ensure that all teachers are registered on the TMIS portal by the specified deadline.
