The government has dismissed a social media report claiming that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine as the new chairperson of the Electoral Commission, deputized by Hon. Syda Bbumba.

In a statement issued by Hajji Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to President Kaguta Museveni, the public was urged to disregard the circulating information as baseless and false.

“The General Public is called upon to regard as FAKE NEWS the social media story indicating that President Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Yorokamu Bamwine to head the Electoral Commission, and to be deputized by Hon. Syda Bbumba. In case of such appointments, you will be informed through the right channels. Thank you!”, he posted on his X channel.
