Police in Kira Division have arrested three suspects believed to be members of a criminal gang known as “Bona Bafu” during an operation in Agenda, Mbalwa–Namugongo in Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

The operation, conducted on May 26, 2026 at about 7:00 p.m., targeted suspected criminal elements accused of terrorising residents in the area through violent robberies and street attacks.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the suspects are linked to a series of criminal activities, including burglary, theft, phone snatching, and assaults on members of the public.

“The group is alleged to have been involved in criminal activities including burglary, theft, phone snatching, assaulting members of the public using paving stones, and the consumption of narcotic substances,” Kawala said.

Police said the suspects were arrested following an intelligence-led operation and were immediately taken into custody.

During the operation, officers recovered suspected narcotic substances, including marijuana leaves and bundles of rolled substances believed to be opium.

Kawala said the suspects have been charged with possession of suspected narcotics and are currently being held as investigations continue into their alleged involvement in organised criminal activity within the Kampala Metropolitan area.

The arrests form part of ongoing police operations targeting gangs blamed for a rise in violent street crime, particularly in suburban areas of Wakiso District.

Kawala reaffirmed the force’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
