Police in Bushenyi have launched investigations into a violent attack in which a panga-wielding man killed one person and left two others severely injured in Kanyamitera Cell, Bitooma Town Council, Bushenyi District.

Initial findings indicate that the yet-to-be-identified male suspect attacked three people at their home on Monday night as they were preparing supper, striking them randomly with a panga before fleeing the scene.

The attack resulted in the death of 64-year-old Bamucungura Edrisa. The two other victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Comboni Hospital in Kyamuhunga, where they remain in critical condition.

“After receiving this sad information we quickly rushed to the scene as per the standard procedure to ascertain the culprits behind this heinous crime,” said Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa.

Police later conveyed the body of the deceased to Comboni Hospital for postmortem examination.

Tayebwa said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspect, who fled after committing the attack. He urged members of the public with any information to report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.

Police condemned the incident and pledged to pursue those responsible without leniency.

Incidents of violent attacks in Greater Bushenyi have in recent times been linked by some local residents to land disputes, poverty, and drug abuse, though authorities have not yet confirmed the motive in this case.
