Security operatives in Nsangi and Kyengera have seized a suspected illegal firearm and detained a young man after acting on intelligence from the public, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb illicit weapons in communities around Kampala.

Police in Nsangi and Kyengera have recovered an illegal firearm and arrested a 26-year-old suspect following a targeted security operation.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, officers acted on a tip-off that led to the arrest of the suspect identified as Vincent Kimbugwe, also known as Kasumali.

“A subsequent search of his residence in Massanda Cell, Kyengera Town Council, led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle,” Owoyesigire said.

Police said the recovered firearm appears rusted and has an obscured serial number.

It has since been taken to the forensic laboratory for specialized analysis.
