Police in Nsangi and Kyengera have recovered an illegal firearm and arrested a 26-year-old suspect following a targeted security operation.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, officers acted on a tip-off that led to the arrest of the suspect identified as Vincent Kimbugwe, also known as Kasumali.
“A subsequent search of his residence in Massanda Cell, Kyengera Town Council, led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle,” Owoyesigire said.
Police said the recovered firearm appears rusted and has an obscured serial number.
It has since been taken to the forensic laboratory for specialized analysis.
Kimbugwe remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have commended local leaders and members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation in supporting community safety efforts.
