Police are investigating a suspected case of domestic violence after a woman died following a brutal assault by her husband.
The deceased has been identified as Keren Lokoru, who died shortly after arriving at Moruita Brigade Health Centre, where concerned neighbours had rushed her for emergency medical attention.
According to residents, Lokoru had been involved in a bitter quarrel with her husband, Robert Lomer, before the violence escalated into a fatal attack.
Sylvia Namer, a neighbour, said she heard the victim calling for help but was unable to intervene.
“We heard her screaming for help, but the door was locked and no one could get inside to rescue her,” Namer said.
Police confirmed that the suspect, Robert Lomer, has since been arrested and is in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole said the arrest is intended to support a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death.
“The suspect is in custody as investigations continue. We shall ensure the matter is thoroughly handled in accordance with the law,” Longole said.
He also urged communities to respond swiftly to cases of domestic violence by reporting incidents and helping victims access emergency support.
“The community also has a responsibility to rescue victims of violence where possible and inform police in time,” he added.
Authorities have condemned the incident and encouraged couples experiencing domestic disputes to seek peaceful and lawful ways of resolving conflicts.
