Explosion at Scrap Workshop in Mbale City Leaves Four Injured

An explosion involving an unidentified object occurred on Tuesday, 17 March, 2026, in St. Andrews Cell, South Central Ward, Industrial Division, leaving four individuals injured.

According to Deputy Police Spokesperson SSP Diana Nandawula, the incident took place at a scrap workshop as workers were offloading scrap metal from a vehicle.

During the process, the unidentified object detonated, resulting in injuries to four people at the scene.

The injured individuals were promptly evacuated to Mbale Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

A Police Bomb Squad team was immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and secure the area.

Authorities confirmed that fragments of the suspected explosive device were recovered and have since been taken for detailed analysis and examination.

“The public, particularly scrap dealers and collectors, is strongly advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unfamiliar objects to security agencies to prevent similar incidents,” SSP Diana Nandawula said.

Investigations into the nature and origin of the explosive device are ongoing.
