Police in Luweero District have arrested a 26-year-old man over the suspected murder of his girlfriend following a domestic dispute in Nyimbwa Sub-county.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at about 1:00 am. in Bajjo Lumansi Village, Bajjo Parish, where 25-year-old businesswoman Kabahwezi Sarah, commonly known as Shilat, was found dead by the roadside with multiple stab wounds across her body.

According to police, Kabahwezi and the suspect, identified as Gilbert Tumwesigye, also known as Rast Niga Bwayi, had been in a relationship and lived in the same compound though each occupied separate rented rooms. Kabahwezi reportedly used her room as both a bar and her sleeping quarters.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly saw the deceased in the company of another man, believed to be a boda boda rider, shortly before the incident.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima said the suspect later confronted the deceased, which escalated into violence.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect witnessed the deceased with another man, a boda boda rider, before confronting her a short distance away, which led to the fatal stabbing,” Twiineamazima said.

Police officers responded to the scene shortly after the incident and documented evidence.

“Police swiftly attended the scene, documented it thoroughly and examined the body on site. A case of murder was registered and statements were recorded from witnesses,” Twiineamazima added.

The suspect was later arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

“The suspect was arrested and remains in custody as inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

Police also confirmed that the body of the deceased was taken to Luwero General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“The body has been conveyed to Luwero General Hospital for post-mortem examination while more inquiries into the matter are still ongoing,” Twiineamazima noted.
