Police in Napak District have launched investigations after an angry mob beat to death a man accused of murdering his wife.
The deceased has been identified as Paul Alexander, a resident of Menueinin Village in Nabwal Sub County, Napak District.
According to police, Alexander had been accused by community members of killing his wife, Angelina Angela, whose death was reported on March 2, 2026.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled his home fearing arrest and possible retaliation from residents. However, he was later tracked down by an irate mob that demanded justice over the woman’s death.
Residents descended on him using sticks, rods and other blunt objects, severely injuring him before police intervened.
Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson, IP Mike Longole, confirmed the incident, saying officers attempted to rescue the suspect but he later died from the injuries he sustained during the assault.
“Police responded to the scene and tried to save the suspect from the mob. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the severe injuries shortly after,” Longole said.
Longole condemned the act of mob justice and urged communities to allow the law to take its course instead of taking matters into their own hands.
Police say investigations into both the alleged murder of the woman and the mob action that led to Alexander’s death are ongoing. Authorities have warned that individuals involved in the mob attack could face arrest once identified.
