Mukono Police Arrest Two Over Vandalism of Electricity Infrastructure
Police in Mukono District have arrested two suspects accused of vandalizing electricity infrastructure at a construction site in Nama Sub-county, recovering tools and other exhibits after a canine unit tracked a scent from the crime scene to the suspects’ residence.

Police in Mukono District have apprehended two individuals in connection with the vandalism of electricity infrastructure at Azam Construction Company Limited in Buligobe Village, Namawojolo Parish, Nama Sub-county.

The suspects, identified as Mzee Asheraf and Geoffrey Mubiru, were arrested following a report filed on February 24, 2026 at around 8am.

A security guard at the construction site discovered that electric cables had been deliberately cut and immediately alerted authorities, requesting support from the police canine unit.

Officers from the Mukono Canine Unit, working alongside Criminal Investigations Department (CID) personnel, examined the scene and confirmed it was suitable for canine tracking.

The sniffer dog, Judge, picked up a human scent and tracked it for approximately 300 meters, leading officers to the suspects’ residence.

A subsequent search of the premises resulted in the recovery of tools suspected to have been used in cutting the electric cables, shoes containing soil samples said to match those from the crime scene, and other exhibits linking the suspects to the alleged vandalism.

The two suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.

Mukono Police have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity around critical infrastructure, warning that vandalism not only disrupts essential services but also poses serious safety risks to surrounding communities.
